Curator Brianna Wright and Curatorial Assistant Felicite Wolfe are currently developing three new traveling exhibits. The new exhibits explore the following topics:
- “No Roads Lead to Buxton” – This exhibit will explore the history of Buxton, Iowa, an early 20th century coal mining town once referred to as “the black man’s utopia in Iowa.” You can learn more about Buxton on our website here.
- “Western Africa: Before the Boats” – Based on the AAMI’s 2013 temporary exhibit, this traveling version will explore the climate, craftsmanship, and communities of western Africa. Learn more about this topic here.
- “Behind the Beat” – This exhibit explores the development of African American musical styles from its roots in Africa to modern-day hip hop.
The new exhibits will be available for organizations, businesses, libraries, and museums to borrow. Contact Museum Educator Krystal Gladden at 319.862.2101 x226 or by e-mail to reserve one today!
