Donate to Our Collection

While the Museum's collection contains many items, we are alway looking for items to enhance our exhibits and document the history of Iowa's African Americans.

Attention All Packrats!
The African American Historical Museum and Cultural Center of Iowa is looking for the following items for it's collections:

  • Photos of African Americans from any town in Iowa, any age
  • Papers of all kinds (includes diaries, personal letters, newsletters)
  • Civil Rights buttons
  • Signs, cards, etc. from African American Businesses
  • Work clothes and work implements from African Americans
  • Items connected with African American farmers from Iowa including farm tools etc.
  • Hats worn by African American women
  • Church outfits worn by African Americans
  • Handiwork made by African American women including quilts and handsewn clothes
  • Sports items, equipment, balls, uniforms used by African American athletes in Iowa
  • Special occasion garments from African Americans including wedding and christening garments
  • Any kind of items from African American fraternal organizations especially Prince Hall, Mason and Eastern Star items
  • Items from African American churches including choir robes, collection plates, hymnals
  • Items from Black Pride movement of the late 1960's including dashikis or hair pins
  • Any type of item connected with Buxton, Iowa
  • Information from the anti-apartheid movement of the 1980's
