History Maker Award

Each year, the African American Museum of Iowa honors African American women currently living in Iowa who have "made history" in our state at the Laying Claim to Our Spirit: Iowa African American Women's Leadership Conference.

All nominees are recognized at the event, with outstanding women selected by a Selection Committee as history makers. The Museum creates a short film about their life, and presents it at a gala celebration. The history makers will have a chance to make brief reflections on their lives and accomplishments at the Gala.
